The Nigerian Police has offered scholarship to children of an assaulted civilian in Isheri area of Lagos State.
Addressing a gathering in Abuja,
the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, said the police officer involved in the act has since been relieved of his duties and remanded in prison.
The police high command also offered scholarships to 355 children of some officers, deceased and serving.
The IGP explained that the gesture is aimed at supporting members of the public, who have suffered human rights abuses by police officers and also assist children of serving and deceased police officers.
Government officials at the event gave advice on how to sustain the laudable programme and promised to give their support whenever the need arises.
